[The Traditions]

"Alexandrian"
founded by Alex Sanders in the 1960s
said to be modified version of Gardnerian system
eclectic approach to ritual
with a blending of cabalistic teachings and ceremonial magic

"British Traditional"
follow the studies of Janet and Stewart Farrar
a mix of Gardnerian and Celtic Traditions
coven members train through a structured degree system
based on the customs, myths
and literature of particular geographic area
not particularly open to new members

"Celtic"
has the distinct feel of the Druids
(an ancient Celtic Priesthood)
strong focus on the Earth, the elements, and tree magic
Runes are significant tool
the deities worshiped are primarily of Celtic origin

"Dianic"
can be traced back to Margaret Murray in 1921
primary focus is worship of the Goddess
in particular the Goddess Diana
completely excluded the male aspect of Divinity
tagged as the "feminist" movement of the Craft

"Eclectic"
The most modern of the Traditions
in which basically nontraditional
mix and match different Traditions
using what suits him or her best
allows for complete freedom within the framework of the Craft
perhaps the most popular form of Wicca among solitary practitioners

"Faerie"
based on faerie lore
combining Celtic and Druidic systems
with elemental and "green" or natural magic

"Gardnerian"
founded by Gerald Gardner in the 1950s
claims to have survived in secret since the Burning Times
'Official Witch of Britain' Gardner go to public with his book
Witchcraft Today ~ published in 1954
today continues to adhere to very structured practices
a hierarchical grading system, ritual nudity
and secretive initiations of new members

"Hereditary"
based on family lineage
the Craft generations can be trace back on one family tree
practices been taught by a living relative
some teach only one or two people in each generation
are quite secretive and closed to anyone outside of the family
Rare, but will sometimes adopt outsiders
due to dwindling family line

"Kitchen witch"
popular among suburban and city Wiccans
emphasizing magic in domestic and work environment
practice is centered mainly around hearth and home
focusing on the practical side of Earth
and elemental magic and religion

"Pictish"
a strong connection to nature
and the animal, vegetable and mineral kingdoms
focuses primarily on magic with little religious content

"Seax-Wica"
a.k.a. Saxon-Wica founded by Raymond Buckland in 1973
an alternative to the existing Gardnerian and Alexandrian practices
allows for solitary practitioners nd self-initiation
served to relax the structures regarding creation of new covens

"Strega"
started in Italy around 1353
is considered one of the oldest unchanged forms of Witchcraft
the teachings are profound and quite lyrical

"Teutonic/Nordic"
rooted in the agricultural and warrior tribes
of Scandinavia and northern Germany
with an emphasis on Nordic culture
the deities most commonly worshiped
are the Goddess Freya and the God Odin
